KEEP YOUR PLUGINS when upgrading Audacity

Someday the Audacity developers (those techie audiophiles who are much smarter than me) will figure out how to make your upgrade recognize all the plugins you’ve already got installed.

But it doesn’t always work that way now…. SO

This video will show you how to upgrade to the latest version (shouldn’t matter what version you are upgrading FROM or TO)

Watch it carefully, it’s not really all that hard.  And if you have any questions, contact me and I’ll try to help.

Send me your feedback and suggestions for additional tutorials and I’ll get right on them!

I’m a voice over talent and the studio I used closed. So, I’m trying to find a replacement. I want to lay down mono tracks so the client will hear the same thing in both ears.

I have a Shure mixer, broadcast quality mic and I’m ready to go.

From the beginning I ran into trouble. How do I open two channels on which I will record? Also, how I go back to beginning and record over the previous tracks, erasing them?

Hi Jack. Let’s take your questions one at a time.

    1) Mono tracks – Just record your tracks normally, then go into the settings on the left (see the picture below) and choose the “Split stereo to mono” function. It will split the track into two mono tracks. Just delete one of them (use the “X” in the top corner of the track you want to delete)

    2) Two channels – You cannot record more than one channel at a time in Audacity. It’s the one glaring limitation of the program. You have to record each channel separately, then move the audio to fit each other, adjust volumes, etc. according to what you like. Watch my video here to learn how to do that.

    3) Recording over a previous track – You cannot do this in Audacity. You have to delete the track you do not want, using the “X” in the top left corner, then re-record.

I am having trouble recording a track with Karasong, I follow the tutorial, but when it asks to import the karasong, I do so then when I get the karaoke tune I like , according to the tutorial I should go to bottom of tune and click download, problem I am having is the notice reads term of service and not download. Can you help me with this. Thank you.

    Hi Joe,

Sorry, but I’m not familiar with Karasong – I assume it’s a plugin of some sort. I wish I could help but don’t know anything about it.
